Enjoy the peace & seclusion of the Shenandoah Valley.
Cliffside cabins are located on property that was first settled in the early 1800s by Thomas Griffin Allen from Winchester, VA. The parcel of land was a small section of a larger farm grant. In 1934, Thomas Allen’s great grandson Thomas Allen Mussaeus built Cozy Cabin on the 36-acre property. The cabin was originally built as a hunting and relaxation home. Years later in 1952, Thomas’ sister Esther Mussaeus McLarin built Riverview Cabin. This cabin served as a retreat for her family from New Jersey. The land for the last cabin, Cliffside Cabin, was sold to a local businessman from Bentonville who completed the construction of the cabin in late 1950.
Today, the owners of each of the cabins are descendants of the Allen family. Our family began renting Cliffside Cabin back in 1988 after purchasing it back from the Mathews family. Cozy Cabin was renovated in 2009 with rentals beginning the same year. A year later, Riverview Cabin was renovated and rentals began in the spring.
By sharing our property with the public through different rentals options, we have been able to continue to update the log cabins over the years to enhance the vacation experience without changing the enchantment of a real log cabin.
